Field Trip to the Water Directorate in Erbil

On November 8th, an educational field trip to the Water Directorate in Erbil was held for third-grade students of the Biology Education Department, Faculty of Education at Tishk International University (TIU). The trip was an integral part of their Ecology Course, designed to deepen their understanding of water resource management. Under the guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Saber Wasman and Mrs. Gasheen Bkahtiyar, this field trip aimed to be both educational and eye-opening.

The day began with a tour of the expansive water collection pools at the Water Directorate. These pools serve as the initial point where water from various sources in Erbil city is received and collected. Students had the opportunity to witness the crucial role these pools play in ensuring a stable water supply for the region. Next, the students ventured into the filtration room, a place where water undergoes a series of essential processes to make it safe for consumption. They observed the intricate steps involved in water purification and the addition of different chemicals to enhance the filtration process. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights into the science of water treatment.

The highlight of the trip was a visit to the laboratory, where students had the chance to perform biology and chemistry tests on water samples. These tests are essential to ensure the water’s quality before it is distributed to households. Under the guidance of experts at the Water Directorate, students conducted experiments, gaining practical knowledge about water testing procedures.

Assistant Professor Dr. Saber Wasman’s expertise in ecology was instrumental in ensuring that the trip aligned with the course curriculum. Mrs. Gasheen Bkahtiyar’s coordination and support ensured that the experience was both informative and safe.

The trip provided students with a deeper understanding of water management, from collection to purification and testing. Dr. Saber Wasman’s guidance and Mrs. Gasheen Bkahtiyar’s support created a rich and engaging learning experience that will leave a lasting impact on these young minds. This excursion reinforced the importance of responsible water management and the critical role it plays in sustaining our communities.
