A Fascinating Tour into the World of Invertebrates at Salahaddin University’s College of Science

Recently, a group of second-grade students of the Biology Education Department, Faculty of Education at  Tishk International University (TIU), embarked on an educational trip to the College of Science at Salahaddin University-Erbil (SUE) on November 5th, 2023. The purpose of this scientific trip was to delve into the realm of invertebrates as part of their biology course. The visit was made even more enriching by the warm welcome and guidance of two distinguished educators, Dr. Fenk and Prof. Dr. Sherwan, Lecturers at the College of Science at SUE.

Dr. Fenk and Dr. Sherwan greeted the young learners and immediately set the stage for an enlightening experience. Their passion for invertebrate biology was palpable, and they wasted no time in sharing their wealth of knowledge. One of the key highlights of the trip was the in-depth exploration of the diverse phyla within the invertebrate world. Dr. Fenk elucidated the intricate characteristics that distinguish these phyla from one another. They made the learning process engaging by providing concrete examples, which were thoughtfully prepared by their own students.

The students were not just passive observers; they were encouraged to actively engage with the specimens and ask questions. This hands-on approach allowed them to touch, observe, and appreciate the incredible diversity of invertebrate life forms. Under the guidance of Dr. Fenk and Dr. Sherwan, the students gained a deeper understanding of the invertebrates’ unique adaptations and evolutionary significance.

The trip was held under the supervision of Mrs. Sawsan, Lecturer at Biology Department at Tishk International University. Mrs. Gasheen also played a crucial role in facilitating the trip, ensuring that all aspects were well-organized.

Dr. Fenk and Dr. Sherwan’s expertise, combined with the active involvement of the students, created a dynamic and interactive learning environment. This visit not only expanded the students’ knowledge of invertebrates but also ignited a passion for the fascinating world of biology. It was a day of discovery, exploration, and inspiration that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on these budding scientists.
