Visiting Salahaddin University’s Museum

The Biology Education Department at the Faculty of Education, Tishk International University (TIU), organized a scientific excursion for fourth-grade students on November 5th, 2023. This educational journey, supervised by Mrs. Sawsan Hamid and Mrs. Shnyar Qadir, aimed to provide students with valuable insights into the realm of comparative anatomy.

Comparative anatomy is a field of study that delves into the anatomical structures of vertebrate animals, shedding light on the significance of these organisms and their unique structures. During this trip, the students had the opportunity to engage in a comparative study, focusing on different classes of vertebrates and selecting representative models from each class. The systems under scrutiny included the skeletal, muscular, digestive, and other vital organs within the bodies of these organisms.

The primary objective of this excursion was to acquaint the students with animals that are not readily available in our laboratory facilities. By exposing them to a wider range of specimens, the trip aimed to enhance their understanding of comparative anatomy and the diversity of anatomical adaptations among various species. Furthermore, the students were given specific tasks to complete after the trip, enabling them to apply the knowledge they had gained during their visit to Salahaddin University.

The trip enabled students in gaining firsthand exposure to a variety of specimens showcased at Salahaddin University’s Museum. This invaluable experience included the opportunity to observe fossils, preserved snakes, and a myriad of other organisms. These resources proved instrumental in deepening the students’ comprehension of the concepts covered in their Comparative Anatomy course.
