National Workshop on Biological Instruments: As Tools for Educational Development

In collaboration with Al Iraq Al-Nahed Company, the Biology Education Department, Faculty of Education at Tishk International University, hosted the National Workshop on Biological Instruments: Tools for Educational Development, held on May 4th, 2023. The workshop brought together experts in the field of biology to discuss and demonstrate various laboratory equipment used in biological research and teaching.

The workshop included a series of lectures and practical sessions on different lab equipment, including incubators, autoclaves, hematocrits, photosynthesis meters, and other new equipment. The expert presenters explained the proper procedures for using each instrument, as well as its functions and applications in biological research and education.

The incubator, for instance, is a vital tool used to provide the optimal conditions for cell growth and development. The expert explained the different types of incubators and how to maintain them properly to ensure consistent and reliable results. The autoclave, on the other hand, is an essential instrument used to sterilize laboratory equipment and materials. The expert presented the various types of autoclaves available and provided a step-by-step guide on how to operate and maintain them. The workshop also included a demonstration of the hematocrit, a device used to measure the proportion of red blood cells in a sample of blood. The expert explained the principles of the hematocrit and how to use it to obtain accurate and reliable results. Finally, the expert demonstrated the use of the photosynthesis meter, a device used to measure the rate of photosynthesis in plants. The workshop participants learned about the different types of photosynthesis meters and their applications in plant physiology research and education.

The national workshop provided an excellent opportunity for biology educators and researchers to learn about the latest laboratory equipment and techniques. It emphasized the importance of proper equipment usage and maintenance, ensuring reliable and accurate results in biological research and education. On behalf of the Department of Biology Education, we extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the esteemed lecturers and experts who made invaluable contributions to the success of this event. Their expertise and dedication greatly enriched the workshop, leaving a lasting impact on all participants.
