Unlocking Minds and Bridging Borders: International Workshop on Autism

In an effort to shed light on the enigmatic world of autism, the Biology Education Department, Faculty of Education at Tishk International University organized an International Workshop on Autism, held on October 26th, 2023, drawing experts and enthusiasts from various corners of the globe. The workshop, titled “Unlocking Minds and Bridging Borders,” aimed to foster a deeper understanding of autism, its management, and the perspectives surrounding this complex syndrome.

The workshop commenced with two enlightening online sessions, featuring distinguished speakers who have dedicated their careers to the field of autism. The first online session started with Dr. Van Chalabi, a renowned psychotherapist specializing in counseling families with autistic children from Germany. Her presentation delved into the profound topic of “Autism is a Different Ability.” Dr. Chalabi emphasized the unique abilities that autistic children possess and provided valuable insights on how to effectively communicate with and support them. Her expertise illuminated the audience on the potential within every autistic child.

The workshop also featured a heartwarming and insightful session by Ms. Ashna Ali, a parent of an autistic child named Lahur. Ms. Ali shared her personal journey, detailing the challenges she has faced over the past nine years while raising Lahur. Her candid account touched the hearts of the attendees and provided valuable real-life perspectives on living with autism. Following Ms. Ali’s presentation, the audience engaged in a dynamic Q&A session, asking a myriad of questions, which Ms. Ali answered with grace and expertise.

After that the second online session continued with Dr. Dena Rihan her presentation entitled “Management of Autism and Environmental Perspective” Dr. Dena Rihan, a specialist in Child Mental Health and Special Needs from Egypt, took the stage in the second session. Her seminar, titled “Management of Autism and Environmental Perspective,” explored the multifaceted environmental factors contributing to autism. Dr. Rihan’s comprehensive analysis shed light on the various perspectives surrounding the causes of this syndrome, adding depth to the workshop’s discussions.

The session then paused momentarily for a delightful break as the talented Lahur showcased his musical prowess by playing the piano, leaving everyone in awe of his abilities.

During the event, a panel session was also held, under the title: Complex Interplay of Pathophysiology, Genetics, Environment, and the microbiome on ASD. featuring five distinguished lecturers, each shedding light on the myriad factors contributing to the rising prevalence of autism. The diverse perspectives provided a comprehensive view of this complex issue.

In the end, the organizers, and speakers from various disciplines, including the biology department, received well-deserved certifications. The overwhelming sentiment was one of gratitude for the invaluable knowledge and insights gained during this enlightening workshop. The workshop proved to be a remarkable gathering of minds dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of autism, emphasizing the capabilities of autistic individuals, and offering hope and support to families facing the challenges of autism.
