International Workshop on Curriculum Development- After Event

The International Workshop on Curriculum Development organized by the Physics Education Department on the 4th and 17th of September, 2023, included an intensive review of curriculum and syllabus development by expert academicians and industrial experts from educational sectors such as Stirling Education. The review considered the scientific and educational requirements for the curriculum in the Physics Education Department. Detailed discussions and revisions were carried out by the workshop participants concerning the important updates that the graduates need in their educational mission or career.  Suggestions and outcomes from the organized workshop can be summarized by the followings:

  1. Reading course suggested to be alone because students will have more chance to read about academic topics.
  2. Merge grammar and writing courses together because in modern teaching, grammar and writing course are together (same with Cambridge curriculum).
  3. Increase the theoretical hour of the Introduction to Physics course by 1 hour in both semesters.
  4. Increase the theoretical hour of the Introduction to Mathematics course by 1 hour in both semesters.
  5. Replace academic debate with GEN 122 Interpersonal Dynamics and Character Building (2 Credits, 3 ECTS).
  6. Include laboratory experiments (2 hours) in the Sound and Wave Motion course.
  7. Increase the theoretical hour of the optics course by one hour.
  8. Change the course name of Differential Equation I to Differential Equation.
  9. Change the course name of Probability and Statistics I change to Probability and Statistics.
  10. Include laboratory experiments (2 hours) in the thermodynamics course.
  11. Include laboratory experiments in the General Biology course by decreasing one hour from the theoretical part, adding two practical hours, and ECTS remained the same.
  12. Integrate physics stories with academic writing from Holt Physics and Holt Science books.
  13. Replace the content of the Introduction to Mathematics II course with the infinite mathematics course.
  14. The course description and objectives of Introduction to Mathematics I and II should be updated.
  15. Remove Riemann sums from Calculus II course content.
  16. Increase theoretical hour of Differential equation course by 1 tutorial hour.
  17. The course description of probabilities and statistics should be updated.
