Our ELT Department student, Süeda Meva Kapukaya, recently participated in the Thailand Culture Presentation Competition organized by Thai Corner. In her presentation, she explored various aspects of Thai culture, introducing important cultural concepts such as Sanuk, which emphasizes enjoying life and finding happiness in everyday activities, and Jai Yen, which reflects the value of remaining calm and patient. She also discussed the traditional Thai greeting Wai, Thailand’s religious traditions, particularly the influence of Buddhism on daily life, and well-known festivals such as Songkran and Loy Krathong, highlighting their cultural significance and role in Thai society.
Adding a personal dimension to her presentation, Süeda shared her connection to the region. Having spent part of her childhood in Cambodia, where her brother was born, she recounted how her parents traveled to Thailand to obtain official documents at a time when there was no Turkish embassy in Cambodia. This experience provided her family with an opportunity to experience Thai culture firsthand, making her presentation both informative and personally meaningful.
Her presentation was highly appreciated by the judges, earning her a complimentary prize and securing 5th place in the competition. This achievement reflects the ELT Department’s commitment to intercultural awareness, global engagement, and academic excellence. We congratulate our student on successfully representing our department and wish her continued success in her future endeavors.
