We are proud to announce that Dr. Suzan Sabri, one of the lecturers at our Department of Mathematics Education participate on Wednesday 11th of December 2024 in a significant panel discussion titled “The Direction of Feminism in the Programs and Policies of Academic and Scientific Centers in the Kurdistan Region.” This event took place at Erbil International Hotel and was organized by the Emma Organization for Human Development, in cooperation with Norwegian People’s Aid, under the broader theme of advancing the feminist movement in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The head of the department, Dr. Orhan Tug and Asst.Prof. Dr. Salisu Ibrahim attend also the event.

The panel brought together a diverse group of academics, policymakers, and activists to address critical issues related to the integration and advancement of feminist ideologies in academic and scientific domains. Discussions focused on:

  • The current state of feminism in academic curricula and research frameworks in the region.
  • Challenges and opportunities for embedding gender equality principles in educational and scientific policies.
  • Strategies to strengthen the feminist movement through collaboration between academic institutions, civil society, and government bodies.

Our representative shared insights on the importance of fostering gender-inclusive policies in academia and highlighted best practices from regional and global perspectives. Emphasizing the vital role of education and research in driving social change, we called for increased investment in programs that empower women and promote equity across all sectors.

This panel marks a significant step toward building a more inclusive and equitable academic environment in the Kurdistan Region, reflecting the broader goals of advancing women’s rights and feminist principles in all aspects of society.
