Navigating Social Media Landscape

In collaboration with Cambridge International Schools, the Mathematics Education Department, Faculty of Education at Tishk International University organized a seminar for senior students at the Capital Campus on 17th January 2024. The seminar was about the positives and negatives of social media on teenagers. The objective of the seminar was to sensitize students on the proper use of social media and enlighten them on the ills that come with social media. Noteworthy attendees at the seminar included select school administrators and educators from Cambridge International School, along with Dr. Orhan Tug, Head of the Department of Mathematics Education at TIU.

The students were cautioned about both disinformation and misinformation that is rampant  on social media platforms. They were encouraged to post information in a responsible manner to avoid hurting other users. They also understood that cyber bullying is rampant and that it has caused trauma and other psychological maladies like anxiety and depression among teenagers. They students were also warned not to fall prey to social media hypes due to the fear of missing out (FOMO), which is one of the leading causes of social media ills like eating disorder, sleeping disorder,  and many others.
