Effective Teaching Strategies in The New Normal Education After Covid-19

Workshops are platforms not just to learn each other’s perspectives and gain new aspects but also as a great method for socializing and intercommunication. Many advantages arise out of participating in workshops, confidence, motivation, networking, and information.

Nowadays, the school systems and industry are quite demanding and in many cases, the level of higher education is deemed inadequate, with many stating that it does not meet what is anticipated or what the industry requires. Overcoming this obstacle is not easy, and requires significant reformation, research, and innovation.  Therefore, to connect the dots and occupy students with new-age techniques and pedagogical methods on teaching and classroom environment and management, having workshops and listening to experienced and prominent teachers from schools will assist students to learn more information about their future occupation and their way of work.

In this regard, the Mathematics Education Department, Faculty of Education at Tishk International University organized the 5th National Workshop on ” Effective Teaching Strategies in the New Normal Education After Covid-19” under the theme “Professional Development for Pre-Service Students”. The workshop was held on February 26th, 2022, starting at 10 AM with the Kurdish National Anthem. The opening ceremony was commenced with a speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Education Dr. Suleyman Celik, in which he unfolded the theme of the workshop.

Two speakers were invited to present in the workshop. The event consisted of a morning and afternoon session, each of which the speakers delivered their speeches and presentations. The sessions were followed with a final panel session held at the end. The speakers and the presentations were:

1. Keynote Speaker: Mr. Muhammed Canbaloglu has over 10 years of experience in Education and Teaching as an English Language Teacher and currently is a Senior Education Officer for Stirling Schools.

The presentation was followed by another talk and a coffee break.

2. Keynote Speaker: Dr. Abdulah Kurudirek,  an experienced high school teacher from Chagh School in Kirkuk

Presentation: A different perspective on Non-Euclidean Geometry Concepts in the Educational Process.

The presentation covered Pure Mathematics and Geometry, providing very fruitful and informative talks on the topics.

Lastly, a panel between the Mathematics Education Department and Computer Education Department was hosted at 12:30 PM. In this, three Physics Education graduates, as well as three Computer Department graduates currently working inside and outside of Kurdistan and Iraq were invited to participate in the panel discussion. The panel engaged in a brief talk on “Tips In Form of Orientation About Undergraduate Programs and the Life after Graduation” by Dr. Salisu Ibrahim, Mathematics Education Department, and Ms. Slvar Abdulazeez, Computer Department. Later, our panelists also discussed their experiences and hardships while and after their studies and in the work environment.

The workshop was wrapped up by a closing ceremony in which the Head of Department Dr. Orhan Tug highlighted the usefulness and the importance of this kind of event. All attendees including students were very pleased with the workshop and thanked the faculty for such an event. In the end, the Faculty of Education were invited for lunch in Deform Restaurant.
