On Sunday, June 1, 2025, the Mathematics Education Department at Tishk International University hosted a dynamic one-hour debate centered on the integration of technology in mathematics classrooms. The event brought together six enthusiastic students from stages one through four, divided into two groups of three.
A Spirited Exchange of Ideas
Each participant was allocated two minutes to articulate their stance, leading to a spirited exchange of ideas on the pros and cons of using digital tools in mathematical instruction.
- The pro-technology group emphasized how digital tools can enhance visualization, personalize learning, and increase student engagement through interactive platforms.
- Conversely, the opposing team raised concerns about over-reliance on technology, potential inequities in access, and the reduced development of fundamental problem-solving skills.
Following the structured debate, Dr. Salisu opened the floor to lecturers and audience members to share their perspectives and cast their votes on which side presented the most compelling argument.
The event not only sharpened students’ critical thinking and public speaking skills but also stimulated a reflective discussion among faculty on the future of mathematics education.
