Graduation Research Projects Internal Workshop
On October 18th – 19th, 2022, the English Language Teaching Department, Faculty of Education at Tishk International University held an internal workshop for its academic staff on student graduation research projects. The workshop aimed to improve the quality of the student’s research and develop their research skills as a lifelong learning process. In light of this discussion, the ELT lecturers shared their experiences regarding the challenges and difficulties students face while conducting their research projects.
On the first day, Dr. Unal Ulker discussed the urgent need for new research evaluation methods and techniques. On the second day, Mr. Karwan Karim introduced what students lack to conduct good research and the needs and wants they require for their graduation projects. The ELT lecturers shared their ideas and experience regarding what should be done to make it more fruitful. Finally, they also talked about improving reading and writing courses as a preparation stage for doing research.
The Objectives of the workshop were to:
Improve the quality of students’ research projects by helping them do original work
· Give specific recommendations to integrate research into the other courses and let them apply critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills
· Reflect upon the demands of the 21st-century globalized market that requires research skills, and also strengthen the student’s 21st-century skills through doing research.
