ELT Department Ensures Structured Academic Guidance

The supervisor selection process for Graduation Research and Capstone projects in the English Language Teaching (ELT) Department aims to ensure that students receive appropriate academic guidance that aligns with their research interests and inclinations.

To this end, the department prepared and published an online survey inviting students to indicate whether they intended to undertake graduation research or capstone projects.

Selection Process

Based on their choice of project type, the department asked students to get in touch with academic staff whom they thought would provide better assistance for their respective projects.

Step Process
1 Students indicate project type preference via online survey
2 Students contact preferred academic staff for guidance
3 Allocation considers student’s research topic and supervisor’s expertise
4 Students without a preference are matched based on GPA and staff availability

For those who could not make up their minds or find a potential supervisor, the department matched students with academic staff based on:

  • Students’ GPA scores

  • Staff members’ respective specialties and availability

To maintain transparency, the class representative of the final year students was invited to witness the selection process.

Post-Selection Procedures

Once supervisors are assigned, students were asked to:

  • Visit the offices of their respective supervisors

  • Discuss their research interests

  • Formalize their supervisory relationship
