ELT Reading Performance Week 3
As part of the open workshop organized by the Department of English Language Teaching (ELT) at the Faculty of Education at Tishk International University (TIU), the faculty held the third reading performance session on November 10th, 2021. The aim of the workshop was to improve students’ English reading performance.
“GIST Strategy”, the main program of the workshop, was presented and modeled by Assitant. Lecturers Soran Mustafa, Kanar Zirak, Karwan Karim at the ELT department.
In the workshop, students were introduced to the process of obtaining the GIST (core idea) while reading. They were able to read a couple of short essays that challenged their reading–skill level. Further, through identifying the “5Ws and 1H” (who, what, when, where, why, and how) in the essays, they were able to complete a template. Finally, students used their template to write a 20-word GIST.
Reading Performance is a workshop held by the ELT Department where each week an effective reading technique will be introduced and modeled to the participating students.
