KST Explores: Ideal Learning Environments

On April 28th, 2024, the Department of English Language Teaching, Faculty of Education at Tishk International University (TIU) successfully held another round of the Kurdistan Student Talk (KST). The theme revolved around Building An Ideal Learning Environment. The speakers consisted of four freshmen and one senior student from the English Language Teaching Department. Esra Serin commenced the event by presenting the essential foundations that comprise an optimal learning environment. Muhammad Yaseen further highlighted the obstacles that impede the academic advancement of undergraduate students. Next, Mardin Raad highlighted the crucial relationship between students and educators, likening it to that of a parent and child. Osman Abdulkadir consolidated all the aforementioned points and delved extensively into the significance of incorporating climate change studies into the curriculum of universities. The research was conducted at Tishk International University, involving a total of 104 student participants.

The survey questionnaire was distributed to the students using google forms. Aside from the survey questionnaire, students conducted visits to both a private and a governmental school in order to gather additional data pertaining to their topic. The presenters conducted interviews with teachers, students, vice principals, and principals to gather their insights on an optimal learning environment, as well as to understand the challenges they have encountered in creating such an environment.

In recognition of the student participation and hard work, the presenters and all members of the KST team were presented with certificates by Dr. Dogan Ozdemir, the Dean of the Faculty of Education at TIU.
