English Language Teaching Department Community Service Project
An outstanding example of student initiative and community involvement, a group of committed students from the English Language Department, Faculty of Education at Tishk International University (TIU) organized a fundraising event that not only raised sufficient amount of funding but also promoted community spirit and helped improve local education.
The initiative was organised by ELT students Ivan Majid, Abdulmalik Faysal, Muhammad Ghanim, and Rasyan Rasti. It started with a basic concept and rapidly expanded into a community-wide endeavour. Under the guidance of ELT staff members Ms. Lydya Aso, Ms. Soma Hassan, and Ms. Shahida Nurmatova, the students successfully arranged a food sale that received a generous response from the university community, resulting in an impressive total. The funds raised were strategically distributed to support essential projects at a nearby public school, improving the educational setting and directly addressing the school’s operational requirements, such as the critical installation of new heating systems and the repair of broken doors and windows to ensure a safer and more sustainable environment.
Key activities in this initiative include:
- A food fundraiser was organized where students showcased their culinary skills and community spirit by preparing and selling a diverse range of culinary delights.
- Key participants conducted visits to the beneficiary school in order to identify crucial requirements, highlighting the project’s dedication to providing specific aid.
- The procurement and installation of heating systems in the school to create a favourable physical learning environment that promotes student achievement.
- Repairing damaged doors and windows, contributing to a more secure and resilient school environment and supporting the sustainability of the infrastructure.
This initiative is in accordance with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
- SDG 4 (Quality Education): Aims to improve educational infrastructure in order to provide inclusive and fair access to high-quality education.
- SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being): Enhancing the school environment by upgrading heating systems to promote better health.
- SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): Emphasises the importance of creating sustainable, safe, and resilient communities, exemplified by repairing broken doors and windows to improve the school’s physical integrity.
- SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Showcases the successful cooperation among students, faculty, and the community.
The accomplishment of this initiative demonstrates the impact that student-led projects can have on their communities. The Department of English Language Teaching is dedicated to supporting projects that not only improve student experiences but also have a positive impact on societal needs. We eagerly anticipate furthering our assistance towards pioneering student initiatives and their tangible influence on the world.
We would like to express our gratitude to the students, staff, and community members who participated and made valuable contributions to the success of this initiative. Their unwavering commitment and diligent efforts have undeniably had a significant impact, and Tishk International University takes great pride in acknowledging their achievements.
