ELT 3rd Grader Students: A Day at Salahaddin University
On May 19th, 2024, a group of third-grade students from the Department of English Language Teaching (ELT), Faculty of Education at Tishk International University (TIU), accompanied by their teachers Ms. Soma Hassan and Ms. Lydya Aso, paid a visit to Salahaddin University of Erbil (SUE). The purpose of the visit was to provide students with experience of university life and to establish connections with another academic institution.
Upon their arrival, the students were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Saman, who is the Dean of the College of Languages, and Ms. Lanya Noori, who is the Head of the English Language Department. The reception committee delivered a comprehensive introduction to Salahaddin University, emphasising its educational objectives and the diverse academic prospects accessible to students.
The students engaged in a guided tour of the Salahaddin University campus. The tour encompassed visits to crucial facilities, such as the university library. The library visit primarily aimed to demonstrate the range of resources accessible to university students and the crucial role that academic libraries play in facilitating higher education.
An essential aspect of the visit entailed the engagement between students from Tishk International University and their counterparts at Salahaddin University. These interactions provided the visiting students with valuable perspectives on various educational methodologies and curriculum structures. Additionally, it presented a chance for them to forge new friendships and academic alliances.
The visit to Salahaddin University proved to be beneficial for the third-grade students, as the experience not only expanded their comprehension of higher education but also motivated them to contemplate their future scholarly paths. The students’ educational experience was enhanced by their exposure to a new academic environment and their interactions with university students. This allowed them to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the various opportunities available in higher education.
