Shakespearean Sonnet Poster Presentation

On Monday 30th May, the ELT Department held the Shakespearean Sonnet Poster Presentation, where graduating students exhibited posters that depicted individual sonnets of their choice from among William Shakespeare's 154 sonnets. The activity - which was arranged in concordance with the universal Shakespeare 2016 campaign, entitled #ShakespeareLives - came as a graduation project for students in their course of TEFL Literature, given to them by Dr Basil Q. Muhammad.  The poster exhibition was inaugurated by the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr Suleyman Celik, and the Head of the ELT Department, Mr Ibrahim Nisanci, as well as the exhibition organizer, Dr Basil Q, Muhammad. Education Systems around the World

Mr. Ali Bala, Oxford Quality Programme Coordinator in Fezalar Educational Institutions, gave a seminar about educational systems around the World in Tishk International Career Days. ELT3 year students participated in the presentation. In first part of the presentation, Mr. Bala mentioned about different systems and trends in education and importance of teachers` professional development. At the end of seminar, there were question and answer session. It was very enlightening and useful event for our students.

Debate Competition Event at IShik University

Academic Debate and Critical Thinking events are prevalent at Tishk International University, and the Council hoping widens their network with private and public Universities of Kurdistan in the future. Debate Competition at Tishk International University is a public speaking event where the Academic Debate and Critical Thinking Council prepare a topic on a range of societal, historic, or popular interest. And in four days each students group prepare a twenty minute speech which responds to the selected prompt. Theme Based Language Teaching

Two sessions on “theme based language teaching” workshops were given to third year ELT students by Regional English Language Officer and an experienced teacher trainer, Lisa Morgan. She has been giving teacher training workshops with U.S Consulate. Students were impressed by her distinctive presentation and her passion for teaching.

Language of Second Life

The ELT department held a poster presentation event on the 30th May 2016 which involved 3r and 4th year students: Internet Linguistics. The event was organized by Dr. Ashraf R. Abdullah. Students were asked to prepare and talk about posters relevant to the aforementioned subjects. With regards to Internet Linguistics, Dr. Ashraf’s students ventured into the virtual world Second Life and built a corpus of data through systematic participant observation. They went on to empirically observe this data and perform linguistic analysis based on what interesting features came up in the language of their corpus.
