On September 5, 2024, the Biology Education Department at Tishk International University (TIU) successfully hosted a Teaching Strategies Sharing Program. This workshop was designed to evaluate the previous academic year’s teaching performance, share effective pedagogical tips, and prepare the department for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Key Highlights of the Workshop
The program began with an opening address by the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr. Dogan Ozdemir, who welcomed the staff. The Head of Department introduced the program’s objectives, setting the stage for a day of collaborative learning.
- Innovative Teaching Strategies: The first session, presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman Mahmoud, focused on various innovative methods for teaching biology. These included project-based teaching, field trip-based instruction, and student-centered learning. His seminar provided valuable insights into enhancing classroom effectiveness and increasing student engagement.
- Addressing Classroom Challenges: In the second session, Ms. Zhikal Omer led an engaging discussion on the challenges faced by teachers. She provided practical solutions and used demo lessons to illustrate both effective and ineffective teaching practices, fostering a deeper understanding among the staff.
- Encouraging Student Participation: The final session centered on strategies to encourage participation among reluctant students. Techniques such as group-based teaching, pair-and-share activities, and individual student follow-ups were discussed. This provided a platform for staff to explore various topics and exchange ideas aimed at enhancing overall performance.
