The Biology Education Department at Tishk International University (TIU) successfully hosted an international workshop on May 22, 2025, titled “Green Transformation: Empowering Communities Through Sustainable Waste Management Education.” The event, held in Room 302 of the Education Building, was part of a community service initiative aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15, focusing on halting land degradation and promoting environmental sustainability.
The workshop brought together a diverse group of academics, environmental activists, and organizational leaders to share insights and practical solutions. The program began with an opening ceremony and a welcome speech from Mr. Harmand A. Hama, who emphasized the importance of community engagement and environmental responsibility.
The workshop featured a series of expert presentations, including:
- Ms. Norlidah Othman, who discussed sustainability in healthcare.
- Mr. Gashbin Idrees, who spoke on how to build resilient communities in the face of climate change.
- Dr. Nurhafizah Hasim, who introduced self-cleaning materials as a step toward smart waste reduction.
- Eng. Muhammad Jabar Ali, who outlined UNICEF’s climate resilience strategies in Iraq.
The workshop concluded with a closing ceremony, wrapping up a day of vibrant discussion and collaboration. The event aimed to equip participants with the tools and inspiration to take action toward a greener, more sustainable future.
