On April 1st, 2022, the Biology Education Department’s 2nd and 3rd-grade students participated in a community service project under the supervision of Mis.Sawsan hamed in partnership with RISE international school and Nilofer high school under the title: Waste management and recycling project, the first stage was ” Environmental Filed Trips. Departmental staff and students visited Sheikh Turab, one of the main locations for picnics in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The purpose of the trip was to distribute trash bags to the people who were on a picnic as well as to raise awareness amongst the picnickers on environmental care and explain the consequences of not keeping their land clean. Students also took part in collecting the trash and placing the bags on the main road to make it easier for the garbage collectors.

By the end of the day, many picnickers asked for trash bags on the main road, which indicated that awareness was effectively raised regarding a clean environment. Our student volunteers were very pleased to witness immediate change amongst the people and were happy to see that they were able to encourage people to stop littering and keep Kurdistan beautiful and clean.
