In alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals), Tishk International University (TIU) hosted an intensive practical training for four talented students from Ronaky International School. This training was in preparation for the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2025, which will take place in Quezon City, Philippines. The students were accompanied by their teacher and a supervisor, strengthening the collaboration between the two educational institutions.
The training was conducted under the academic supervision of Mr. Harmand A. Hama, Head of the Biology Education Department. The initiative also featured dynamic contributions from the Medical Analysis and Pharmacy Departments, whose academic staff delivered a range of high-quality, discipline-integrated topics that enriched the students’ learning experience.
This program provided in-depth practical exposure to advanced biological techniques, nurturing the students’ scientific competence and confidence in a real academic setting. The students engaged in laboratory-based modules carefully designed according to IBO preparation guidelines, including:
- Microscopy and tissue analysis.
- Vertebrate and invertebrate dissection.
- Bacterial identification via macro- and microscopy.
- Biochemistry techniques such as buffer preparation and enzyme activity assays.
- Protein quantification, buffer systems, and enzyme activity.
- Genomic DNA isolation and gel electrophoresis from molecular biology.
- Physiological measurements in plants.
- Population ecology and biodiversity assessments.
TIU’s training program provided not only technical knowledge but also a strong foundation in scientific thinking, teamwork, and academic discipline. By involving diverse departments, the initiative offered a multidisciplinary approach, ensuring that the students received a well-rounded preparation for one of the world’s most prestigious science competitions.
This event reflects TIU’s strong commitment to SDG 4, striving to enhance science education and offer equitable learning opportunities that empower young minds to achieve their academic potential. The collaboration among university departments and with Ronaky International School embodies the spirit of SDG 17, demonstrating how partnerships across educational institutions can generate impactful learning experiences.
Tishk International University expressed great pride in the students’ enthusiasm and active participation. It also commended the collaborative efforts of the academic departments involved, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary engagement in fostering high-quality science education.
