On December 9, 2024, third-grade students from the Biology Education Department at Tishk International University (TIU) embarked on an enriching educational field trip to the Water Directorate in Erbil. This visit was an integral component of their Ecology course, designed to provide a deeper, practical understanding of water resource management and its importance. The trip was expertly supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Saber Wasman, a specialist in ecology, and coordinated by Mr. Dana Luqman.
Tour Highlights
The trip provided students with valuable hands-on experience, bringing classroom theory to life.
- Water Collection Pools: The students began their visit with a tour of the expansive water collection pools. They observed firsthand how these pools receive and store water from various sources, a crucial step in ensuring a consistent and reliable water supply for the Erbil region.
- Laboratory Water Testing: The highlight of the trip was the visit to the laboratory. Under the guidance of experts from the Water Directorate, students performed biology and chemistry tests on water samples. This activity demonstrated the rigorous procedures required to maintain public health and the safety of the water supply before distribution.
Educational Impact
This field trip successfully deepened the students’ understanding of the entire water management process—from collection to testing. It highlighted the critical role of water in sustaining communities and reinforced the importance of maintaining and protecting this valuable resource for future generations. The experience fostered a connection between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, proving to be an invaluable supplement to their academic curriculum.
