TIU hosts the 5th International Nanotechnology Workshop
We are pleased to announce that the 5th International Nanotechnology Workshop was successfully held on January 15th, 2022. The workshop was organized by the Department of Physics, Faculty of Education at TIU. The workshop was held in three sessions as planned in the announced program:
Part 1: Keynote speeches
Part 2: Poster Presentation
Part 3: Panel Discussion.
The workshop commenced with opening speeches delivered by the President of Tishk International University Assist. Prof. Dr. Abdul Samad Salahuddin, and Head of the Board of Trustees Assist. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi. This was followed by the first session in which each keynote speech took about 30-40 minutes, covering nanoscience and nanotechnology topics. Every speech was followed by a question & answer session where online and in-person participants interacted with their questions and comments regarding the topic covered. Following the lunch break, 16 poster presentations covering nanoscience and nanotechnology across different universities were presented. The final session comprised of the panel discussion entitled “How to Direct Nanotechnology Research Path in Serving Community”.
The workshop was successfully completed with the help of distinguished keynote speakers, session chairs, poster presenters, panel moderator, panelists, attendants, registrars, internet and online managers, and the hosting of Tishk International University staff.
On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to thank all presenters and participants, and Tishk International University for continuous dedication and support.
The short program was as below:
1st Part:
The first part comprised two sessions. The first session started with a keynote speech on “Effects of the Nano-Silica Sand on the Sensing and Rheological Properties of the Hydraulic Fracturing Fluid”, presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Salih from the University of Sulaimani, College of Engineering, and the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani. The second keynote speaker was Asst. Prof. Dr. Azeez A. Barzinjy from Salahaddin University and Tishk International University, who presented on “Green Synthesis of Nanoparticles: Novel Applications in Harvesting Sunlight for Solar Thermal Generation”. The first session was followed by a tea break.
The second session commenced with a keynote speech on “Effect of Growth Time on Morphology and Structure of ZnO Nanomaterials Using Biosynthesis Method” delivered by Prof. Dr. Samir Mustafa Hamad from Soran Research Center, Soran University. After that, the next keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Henini from the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Nottingham-UK delivered his speech on “Development of Advanced Semiconductor Materials and Devices for Next-Generation Photovoltaics: Opportunities and Challenges”. The final keynote speech was presented by Prof. Dr. Kamal Kolo from Soran Research Center, Soran University, who covered “Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Through Modification of Petrophysical Parameters in Reservoir Rocks using Nanotechnology – Lab versus Field Applications”.
2nd Part:
The second part of the workshop incorporated poster presentations, where researchers from different universities, either individually or in groups, participated in the workshop by presenting their studies on nanoscience and nanotechnology through posters. Academicians from Tishk International University, Salahaddin University, Soran University, Duhok University, Zakho University, Anbar University, Hawler Medical University, Erbil Polytechnic University, and University of Science – Malaysia, participated in the poster presentation.
3rd Part:
Within the final part of the workshop, Dr. Amir Abdulrahman Ahmed, Adviser of Scientific Research of Ministry of Higher Education in KRG gave a speech on “21st Century Research Universities”. After his presentation, the panel discussion titled “How to Direct Nanotechnology Research Path in Serving Community” commenced, and was led by Dr. Wala Gazey Dizayee from College of Basic Education, Salahaddin University. Nanotechnology is found in modern society all the way, from pocket computers to life-saving shots in weapons to combat the global pandemic. It can also produce clean water, provide abundant food, offer green energy technologies, combat climate change, and develop new treatments for diseases that currently have no treatment options. The organizing committee chose the panel discussion title to cover these topics and discuss how nanotechnology research can be directed towards serving the community.
The participating panelists in this discussion included Prof. Dr. Kamal Kolo, Prof. Dr. Samir Mustafa, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Salih and Dr. Amir Abdulrahman. Each speaker was given five minutes to talk about the topic and a Q&A session was held subsequently to lead an open discussion.
The workshop was successfully performed with the help of our distinguished keynote speakers, session chairs, poster presenters, panel moderator, panelists, attendants, registrars, staff of the Tishk International University. The workshop keynote speeches also were streamlined online from the zoom platform so that people from around the world could participate. It was observed that there was a great interest in the keynote speeches. The audience who participated face to face and online showed great enthusiasm in following the presentations with their questions.
Around 100 people participated in the workshop in person. All keynote speeches were shared online in real-time. In each discussion, there were approximately 120 online attendees from various countries. At the end of the first and second sessions, a link for attendance registration through ZOOM was shared for certificate submission. The participants who were attending the sessions filled up the forms. According to the submissions received, more than 180 participants attended the workshop sessions online.
