The early years of the 21st century witnessed the start of the Nanotechnology revolution, which is rapidly and increasingly influencing people’s everyday life. Thus, public awareness of ‘Nano’ and its social implications and societal consequences has become of prime significance.
On 24th December 2017, a one-day workshop under the title of “Nanotechnology Workshop NW-1 2017” was hosted by the Physics Education Department at Tishk International University. The Workshop, fully sponsored by Tishk International University, was organized in collaboration with the Physics Departments in the College of Education and the College of Science at Salahaddin University. Its organizing committee had selected speakers from eight local universities, namely: Tishk International , Salahaddin, Sulaimani, Duhok, Charmo, Koya, Soran and Zakho.
The Workshop began with an introductory session by Dr. Idris Hadi Salih, Head of the Board of Trustees and President of Tishk International University. He spoke about the University and its organizational structure of management. He provided a mechanism for various funding agencies to collaborate in nucleating and enhancing research efforts across a broad spectrum of technical, educational and social issues related to Nanotechnology.
After the introductory session, the Workshop’s two technical sessions started, attended by 100 participants, including researchers, professors and students of different universities, from different parts of the Kurdistan region. The seminars presented provided a rich source of ideas for cooperation among local universities around the Region, and offered suggestions for cooperative international activities in this critical area of science and technology. At the end of the Workshop, a panel was held, which came out with recommendations for future work in the field of Nanotechnology.
