Sharing is Caring

Every child deserves education and access to resources to keep the process going. They deserve a healthy environment that supports and encourages them to get the education they need.

The aims of ‘Sharing is Caring’ are to; firstly; share with those in need, especially students who do not have appropriate resources to support their education. Secondly, Increase the students’ awareness and help them improve socially and become more responsible. Finally, providing the students with an opportunity to see the circumstances in which refugees are and to create an environment that encourages them to research.

Step one: 4th-grade student volunteers started teaching at the Refugee Camp Schools as part of the Community Social Project. In support of this, the English Language Teaching Department volunteers decided to collect funds to help their students with their stationery needs.

Step two: After several meetings between our beloved volunteers, school teachers, school managers, and refugee camp management staff, they found a donor among one of the volunteers to support their idea of providing school supplies for refugee students at Darashakran Refugee Camp.

Step three: All the supplies that were provided in three weeks were packed and prepared for the big day through the hard work and dedication of our volunteer students and ELT staff members. The supplies were prepared according to the number of refugee students from the Syrian refugee camp schools. The number of students was 3000 from three different schools in the refugee camp in the Khabat district.

Step four: On April 18th, 2022, our volunteers distributed school supplies to Syrian refugee students of the Darashakran Refugee Camp schools. This charitable event was supported and supervised under Dr Abdul Samad Salahuddin Ahmad, President of Tishk International University, Asst. Prof. Dr Idris Hadi, Head of the Board of Trustees, Asst. Prof. Dr Mehmet Ozdemir, Academic Vice President, and Dr Venera Ulker, Head of the ELT Department.

The generous contributions from the ELT Department volunteers, lectures, and individuals from other departments enabled the distribution of thousands of school kits to 3000 Syrian refugee students from three schools at Darashakran Syrian Refugee Camp. The school kits each included nine stationery items.

On behalf of the ELT Department, we thank all staff and student volunteers for their support and significant hard work. We also sincerely appreciate the financial contributions provided by our senior student, which consisted of 35000 USD.
