National Workshop: Internship Courses – Challenges and Opportunities
Welcome to the workshop on Practice Teaching course regulations, procedures, tasks, assessments, and how to improve the course. This workshop was organized by the English Language Department, Faculty of Education at Tishk International University (TIU), Erbil, and Sulaimani branches. The workshop took place on December 12, 2022, at the TIU Suli Branch.
The participants of this workshop were the supervisors of the internship program, heads of the departments, and several other guests. The workshop aimed to provide an overview of the ‘Practice Teaching’ course regulations, procedures, tasks, and assessments and to discuss ways to improve the course. The ‘Practice Teaching’ course is an essential component of teacher education, as it provides student teachers with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to practical classroom situations. The course regulations and procedures aimed to ensure that student teachers received adequate guidance and support throughout the course.
The tasks assigned to student teachers during the course were relevant, meaningful, and challenging. They also aligned with the course objectives and learning outcomes. The assessment of student teachers was based on various criteria, such as lesson planning, classroom management, pedagogical skills, and communication skills. The assessment was also fair, objective, and transparent. During the workshop, the challenges and opportunities related to the ‘Practice Teaching’ course were discussed. Ways to improve the course, such as incorporating more technology into classroom practice, providing more opportunities for peer teaching, and promoting reflection and self-evaluation, were explored.
The workshop provided a platform for fruitful discussions and knowledge sharing among the participants. Working together, the quality of teacher education can be enhanced, and future teachers can be better prepared for the profession’s challenges. We thank all the participants for attending the workshop on December 12, 2022, at the TIU Suli Branch, and we hope to see you again at future events.
