COURSE REGISTRATION PROCESS OF ELT STUDENTS

Dear English Language Teachers of the Future,

You’re welcome back to university and we wish all best for your career.

We prepared this document to help you about registration process. Here are the steps you should follow:

  • Course registration process will start on February 5 and finish on February 6, 2017 and all students, themselves, have to register courses to take lessons and exams. Read related parts of Students Handbook.
  • Lessons will start on February 07, 2017.
  • Be sure that you don’t have payment problem.
  • In internet, get in the My-Tishk International web site. You can try Student portal on Tishk International home page (tiu.edu.iq) or type http://my.tiu.edu.iq on the address bar of internet explorer. User name is your student number. If you forgot your password, see Student Affairs to get it with your university ID. If you lost your ID, see IT services.
  • Firstly, go to Personal Information tab and update your contact information (phone numbers). Then go to My settings and update your email address if there are changes. If you are entering the system for the first time, you’ll be asked automatically.
  • Go to “Courses I required to take” in Academics tab. Select the courses in an order from up to down. You need to start selecting from the failing courses if you have.
  • When you finish selecting all courses, go to your advisor to take approval and your registration form. You can not complete registration without advisor’s approval.

Some issues to consider:

2nd Class Students:

  • There are A and B branches (groups) in most of the courses. Choose your group as it was in previous semester. For example, if you were 2A class, choose A branches of the courses.
  • For “Academic Debate…” course, Students of 2A will choose branch K. Students of 2B will choose branch L.
  • For Kurdology II course, Students of 2A will choose branch A. Students of 2B will choose branch B. (Rebin Khalid Khdir is written next to them).
  • You need to take a Non-technical Elective course in this semester. We will open GEN 210 BODY LANGUAGE IN TEACHING course for you. If you want to choose this course go to Departmental Courses But if you want to choose another course, you may choose one of the many courses from other departments as Non-technical elective. This course has to be suitable for your schedule. See your advisor for more details to take a course from other departments.
  • If you have courses failed from previous semesters and don’t need to attend course: Don’t forget to see your lecturer for your failed course and fill the petition about attendance exemption and bring it back to your advisor. Otherwise your attendance will be obligatory in these courses. You need to fulfill all requirements (Homework/assignments, presentations, quizzes, midterms etc…) of these courses to pass.

 

3rd Class Students:

  • There are A and B branches (groups) in most of the courses. Choose your group as it was in previous semester. For example, if you were 3A class, choose A branches of the courses.
  • For Translation course, Kurdish and Arabic speaking students will choose Translation Kurdish. Turkish students will choose Translation Turkish as it was in the first semester.
  • You need to take three Technical Elective courses to graduate. You can see them as Major Elective Course in your curriculum. This semester we offer you one of them. You may choose ELT 394 21ST CENTURY LEARNING or/and ELT 484 ELT TESTING and/or ELT 396 CREATIVE WRITING If you cannot find these courses in your list, go to Departmental Courses list.
  • If you have courses failed from previous semesters and don’t need to attend course: Don’t forget to see your lecturer for your failed course and fill the petition about attendance exemption and bring it back to your advisor. Otherwise your attendance will be obligatory in these courses. You need to fulfill all requirements (Homework/assignments, presentations, quizzes, midterms etc…) of these courses to pass.
  • If you have failed in English Literature and/or Linguistics I course in the first semester, you may take them with 2nd year students in this semester. For English Literature you must choose C branch.

 

4th Class Students:

  • There are A and B branches (groups) in most of the courses. Choose your group as it was in previous semester. For example, if you were 3A class, choose A branches of the courses.
  • You need to complete 3 technical electives in order to graduate. The last elective has been excluded because of inclusion of Research Project course. If you have taken 3 or more electives so far, you don’t need to take electives anymore.

This semester we will offer you four electives (ELT432 Second Foreign Language IV Turkish, ELT 394 21ST CENTURY LEARNING or/and ELT 484 ELT TESTING and/or ELT 396 CREATIVE WRITING. You can choose one or more. If you cannot find these courses in your list, go to Departmental Courses list.

  • If you have courses failed from previous semesters and don’t need to attend course: Don’t forget to see your lecturer for your failed course and fill the petition about attendance exemption and bring it back to your advisor. Otherwise your attendance will be obligatory in these courses. You need to fulfill all requirements (Homework/assignments, presentations, quizzes, midterms etc…) of these courses to pass.
  • If you have failed in English Literature and/or Linguistics I course in the first semester, you may take them with 2nd year students in this semester. For English Literature you must choose C branch.
  • If you have failed in any elective courses in previous semesters, you may take a new elective course instead and replace it. If you want replacement, remind it to your advisor.
