5th National Workshop: Language Teaching & Teacher Training – Overview

The ELT Department of Tishk International University held a National Workshop titled ‘Language Teaching & Teacher Training’ on February 26th, 2022. The workshop aimed to gather professionals in the field to:

  • Discuss the trends in language education
  • To exchange ideas and experience on methods of teaching the English Language
  • Discuss the demand of today’s job market
  • Provide a practical session demonstration of the various ways of using technology in language teaching followed by the discussions of the techniques used. 

The workshop welcomed specialists in the field who have experience in teaching in different institutions on different levels. The workshop is believed to be useful in

  • Building bridges between the university, community, and K-12 schools
  • Strengthening relationships and cooperation
  • Improving language education that can go in hand with the rapid changes the region is facing
  • Meet the demands of society, employers, and all other stakeholders.

The workshop consisted of the following sessions:

  1. Why Continuing Development Matters?

  2. What to Expect When You Start Teaching? 
    By Ms. Suraiya M. Ahmed (Teacher in Cambridge International School)
  3. What Is It Like to Teach Different Ages?
    By Ms. Suraiya M. Ahmed (Teacher in Cambridge International School)
  4. Panel Discussion.
    Panelists from TIU (Dr. Sami Hussein, Mr. Rawand Sabah, Ms. Hannah Kamal, Ms. Fatimah Saadi, Mr. Soran Mustafa, Mr. Reman Sabah)

 

The Intended Outcomes of the Workshop: 

  1. Increase the awareness about the trends in Language teaching.
  2. Revealing the demands of the market.
  3. Sharing experience.
  4. Strengthening the ties with the public schools and the Faculty of Education.
  5. Enlightening the participants about what to do when they first start working as a teacher.
