STRENGTHENING MATHEMATICS EDUCATION THROUGH COGNITIVE COMPLEXITY

This interactive seminar was developed to academically challenge instructors of mathematics courses and encourage them to engage in a pedagogical approach that would enhance the critical thinking skills of the learners. Cognitive complexity and metacognitive are distinguished approaches that are notable for that purpose. Thus, instructors were taken through these techniques and after, a discussion was held to identify the advantages and disadvantages for each approach. The aim of the seminar was to encourage lecturers to consolidate their methods of teaching for an increase in instruction efficiency and to develop a learner’s higher-order thinking.
