Workshops are platforms not just to learn others perspectives and gain new aspects but also a nice method for socializing and intercommunication. Many advantages arise out of participating in workshops, being confidence, motivation, networking and information.<\/p>\n
The school systems and industry these days are quite demanding and frequently we encounter the problem about the level of higher education does not meet what is anticipated. Although overcoming this obstacle is not easy. Therefore, to connect the dots and occupy students with new-age techniques and pedagogical methods on teaching and classroom environment and management, having workshops and listening to experienced and prominent teachers from schools will assist students to learn more information about their future occupation and their way of work.<\/p>\n
Therefore, to promote this idea, on March 6th<\/sup>, 2021, Mathematics Education Department organized ” Teaching Mathematics in the Context of Covid-19 Workshop”\u00a0under the theme \u201cProfessional Development for Pre-Service Students\u201d. The workshop started at 10:00 with the Kurdish national anthem, and in the opening ceremony the Dean of the faculty, Dr. Suleyman Celik unfolded the theme of the workshop. There were four speakers in total, two sessions in the morning and two sessions in the afternoon with a panel at the end.<\/span><\/p>\n The first speaker Mr. Sercan Oz, who has over 10 years of experience in education and teaching as English Language teacher and currently is a Senior Education Officer for Stirling Schools, presented \u201cAdapting Classroom Experience: Education from pre-pandemic normals to post-pandemic normals\u201d followed by another talk from Mr. Erkan Arslan, an experienced high school teacher, on \u201cPower of PowerPoint\u201d and its use in teaching math and preparing materials. Very fruitful and informative talks.<\/p>\n After the lunch break, the third talk started at 13:00 by our graduate Mr. Veysel Yildirim, who is currently math teacher at RISE international school, and presented \u201cExtracurricular Activities in Mathematics Education\u201d, including Olympiads and Clubs in schools. Last talk, which was on \u201cChallenges in Teaching High School Mathematics in Iraq\u201d by Mr. Cuneyt Kilic, a high school, grade 12, math teacher.<\/p>\n Last but not least, we hosted a panel, and we invited 5 of our graduates who are currently working inside and outside of Kurdistan and Iraq. The panel started by a brief talk about \u201cTips in form of orientation about undergraduate programs and the life after graduation\u201d by Mr. David Wafula. And later our panelists discussed their experience and hardships while and after their studies and in the work environment. At the end, Prof. Dr. Mowafaq AlKassab gave a short speech on \u201cMotivating and encouraging our students and colleagues about postgraduate programs\u201d.<\/p>\n At the end of the program, we wrapped up with the closing ceremony by the head of the department Dr. Orhan Tug who highlighted the usefulness and the importance of this kind of events.
