As part of the open workshop organized by the Department of English Language Teaching (ELT) at the Faculty of Education<\/a> at Tishk International University (TIU)<\/a>, the faculty held the third reading performance session on November 10th, 2021. The aim of the workshop was to improve students’ English reading performance.<\/p>\n \u201c<\/span><\/span>GIST Strategy\u201d<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>the main program of the workshop<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> was presented<\/span><\/span> and<\/span><\/span> mod<\/span><\/span>eled <\/span><\/span>by<\/span><\/span> Assitant<\/span><\/span>. Lecturer<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span> Soran Mustafa, <\/span><\/span>Kanar<\/span><\/span> Zirak<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>Karwan<\/span><\/span> Karim at the ELT department.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n In<\/span><\/span> the workshop<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>students were introduced to the process of obtaining the GIST (core idea) while reading. They<\/span><\/span> were able to read<\/span><\/span> a couple of <\/span><\/span>short essays<\/span><\/span> that challenged their reading<\/span><\/span>–<\/span><\/span>skill level<\/span><\/span>. Further, through identifying<\/span><\/span> the<\/span><\/span> \u201c<\/span><\/span>5Ws and 1H<\/span><\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span> (who, what, when, where, why, and how)<\/span><\/span> in the essays, they were able to <\/span><\/span>complete a template. Finally, students use<\/span><\/span>d<\/span><\/span> their <\/span><\/span>template<\/span><\/span> to write a 20-word GIST.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Reading Performance is a workshop held by the ELT Department where each week an effective reading technique will be introduced and mod<\/span><\/span>eled<\/span><\/span> to the participating students.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t
