International Conference on Education and Teaching: Implications of Democratic Education for Teacher Education Programs<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Formal education in Kurdistan Region needs urgent attention. The urgency for reformation has become greater since the COVID-19 Pandemic disturbed the <\/span><\/font>conventional<\/span> methods of teaching, and our daily lives in general. As a result, a new opportunity has emerged to initiate <\/span><\/font>amendments in the fundamentals of education, especially <\/span><\/font><\/span>teaching. For the most part, democratic education in the Kurdistan Region has been given little support and regard. Part of this inattention has been the result of a minimalist understanding of democracy, as well as a somewhat technical approach to teaching and teacher education.<\/span><\/p>\n

This presentation asks the following questions: What is teaching? Who is a teacher? It presents an opportunity to redefine teaching based on the foundations of democratic education. It focuses on the significance of democratic values and dispositions in teaching and considers teachers as professional agents of transformation in the society. This presentation discusses democratic education by offering implications in teaching and teacher education programs in Kurdistan Region.<\/p>\n
