Held on November 20, 2025 \u2013 TIU Campus, Erbil<\/b><\/div>\n
Tishk International University is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the\u00a0International Workshop on \u201cThe Kurdish Language Textbook in Transition,\u201d<\/b>\u00a0a collaborative event between the\u00a0Goethe Institute<\/b>\u00a0and the\u00a0English Language Teaching Department, Faculty of Education, TIU<\/b>. The workshop brought together a distinguished group of international and local scholars, policymakers, and language educators for a full day of discussion, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative planning for the future of Kurdish language education in the Kurdistan Region.<\/div>\n
A Day of Collaboration and Insight<\/b><\/div>\n
With increasing cultural and linguistic diversity in the Kurdistan Region, the workshop addressed the growing need for structured, high-quality Kurdish language instruction for non-native adult speakers. Drawing on global practices, the event offered a dynamic platform for comparing educational models, exploring challenges, and identifying opportunities for reform.<\/div>\n
Keynote speakers\u00a0Dr. Kathrin Kunkel-Razum<\/b>,\u00a0Prof. Dr. Henning Lobin<\/b>, and\u00a0Mr. Fahmi Kakaee<\/b>\u00a0shared valuable insights into curriculum development, textbook design, and successful strategies for teaching a language within a multicultural context. Kurdish scholars including\u00a0Dr. Dyar Ali Kamal<\/b>,\u00a0Dr. Qais Kakil Tawfiq<\/b>, and\u00a0Dr. Shakhawan Sideeq Ramadhan<\/b>\u00a0provided regional perspectives on pedagogy, linguistic needs, and current practices in teaching Kurdish to non-native speakers.<\/div>\n
Moderated by\u00a0Ms. Liva Adil Shareef<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Mr. Soran Abubakr Abdulrahman<\/b>, the workshop featured highly interactive discussions that fostered meaningful academic cooperation.<\/div>\n
Major Outcomes of the Workshop<\/b><\/div>\n
The workshop concluded with several important outcomes that will guide future efforts in Kurdish language education:<\/div>\n
1. Agreement on the Need for a Unified Kurdish Language Textbook<\/b><\/div>\n
Participants reached consensus on developing a\u00a0standardized Kurdish textbook<\/b>\u00a0for non-native speakers that aligns with international language-teaching frameworks. This textbook will incorporate communicative, learner-centered approaches inspired by successful foreign language teaching models.<\/div>\n
2. Identification of Core Curriculum Principles<\/b><\/div>\n
