Grade 3 elective courses are:<\/strong><\/div>\n

1. ELT 486 TECHNOLOGY ASSISTED LANGUAGE TEACHING<\/strong><\/div>\n

Course Description<\/b>:<\/p>\n

In the Technology-Assisted Language Teaching (TALT) elective course, ELT 3 students will embark on a dynamic exploration of the intersection between language education and cutting-edge technology. The course is designed to foster a comprehensive understanding of how digital tools can enhance language instruction, catering to the diverse needs of learners in today’s technologically driven world.<\/p>\n

Throughout the course, students will delve into a rich array of topics, ranging from the integration of multimedia resources and interactive software to the development of online language learning communities. Emphasizing practical applications, participants will engage in hands-on activities and collaborative projects that allow them to experiment with various technological tools, ultimately developing the confidence to incorporate these tools seamlessly into their future language teaching practices.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the TALT course places a strong emphasis on ethical considerations and responsible use of technology in language education. Students will critically examine the implications of digital tools on learner privacy, accessibility, and cultural sensitivity. By fostering this awareness, the course aims to empower educators to make informed decisions about the incorporation of technology in their teaching methodologies.<\/p>\n

Prerequisites<\/b>:<\/p>\n

To enroll in the TALT elective course, students must meet the following prerequisites:<\/p>\n

  1. Personal Computer (PC)<\/u>: Access to a personal computer is essential for engaging in hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and exploring digital resources throughout the course.<\/li>\n
  2. Internet Access:\u00a0<\/u>A reliable internet connection is required to access online materials, participate in virtual discussions, and explore web-based language teaching tools.<\/li>\n
  3. Good Knowledge of Microsoft Office:<\/u>\u00a0Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is necessary for creating, editing, and presenting digital content during the course.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    2. ELT 370 EDUCATION FROM A CRITICAL LENS<\/strong><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    This course introduces students to the major tenants of the critical approach in education. It will incorporate a variety of mind games and reasoning activities that help us exercise logical thinking and understand logical fallacies. These games and activities will help students better understand different streams of reasoning and argumentation in the society. The course will connect the logical argumentations with the reading material and class activities to elaborate on the theory and practice of education.<\/div>\n
    Students who take this course are encouraged to have successfully completed courses such: Academic Reading, Academic Writing, 21 Century Learning, Listening and Speaking.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    Grade 4 elective courses are:<\/strong><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    1. EDU 408 CULTURE, CREATIVITY, AND CRITIQUE IN EDUCATION<\/strong><\/div>\n
    This course is designed to help students recognize the transformative nature of education and teaching in schools and society. It will incorporate creative works in text and video into the critical approach in education. Students will watch popular films that cover educational and social issues, read short works of literature and literary criticism, and engage in creative writing experiences.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    Students who take this course are encouraged to have successfully completely courses such as Teaching for Transformation, Education from a Critical Lens,\u00a0Introduction to Education, academic reading and writing, and the literature courses.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n

    2. EDU 304 | Material Adaptation and Development | Course Description<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Course Prerequisite:<\/span><\/b> The “Material Adaptation and Development” course is designed for pre-service teachers keenly interested in teaching and pedagogical matters, particularly in the context of English Language Teaching. While you’re welcome to join, remember that the course requires <\/span>solid dedication and interest in teaching concepts<\/span><\/b>. If you’re unsure about your commitment, perhaps explore the content presented below and then make an informed decision. Once again, <\/span>if teaching does not inspire you, explore other opportunities that align with your interests.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Key Content:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Principles of Material Design:<\/span><\/b> An exploration of the foundational theories and concepts in designing educational materials for English language learning. This includes understanding learners’ needs, contextual factors, and pedagogical objectives. <\/span>Students will be required to develop a teaching material for language teaching including interactive notebooks and video<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Adaptation of Existing Materials:<\/span><\/b> Techniques and strategies for effectively modifying and adapting existing English language teaching materials to suit various learning environments and student profiles. <\/span>Students will be familiarized with the common forms of teaching materials.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Assessment and Evaluation of Teaching Materials<\/span><\/b>: Methods for assessing the effectiveness of teaching materials. <\/span>Students will evaluate textbooks using evaluation checklists and present the findings to their classmates.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Technology in Language Teaching<\/span><\/b>: An overview of the latest technological advancements and their applications in English language teaching, such as online learning platforms and digital classrooms.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
