On October 21st – 22nd, 2022, the English Language Teaching DepartmentFaculty of Education at Tishk International University held an internal workshop for its academic staff on ELT Grammar 1-2 Syllabus Design. The workshop aimed to design a syllabus that could fulfil the needs of the first-year students of the English Language Teaching Department and equip them with the tools needed for their subsequent years. Within this context, the ELT lecturers shared their experiences regarding the challenges and difficulties in identifying required and recommended syllabus elements. 

On the first day, Mr. Behcet Celik discussed the purpose of a course syllabus and identified required and recommended syllabus elements. On the second day, Mr. Soran Mustafa Kurdi introduced recognising aspects of effective syllabus design supporting student engagement and learning. The ELT lecturers shared their ideas and experience regarding what should be done to make it more fruitful. Finally, they also talked about selecting required texts and materials.

 

The Objectives of the workshop were to:

  • Discussing the purpose of a course syllabus
  • Identifying required and recommended syllabus elements.
  • Recognizing aspects of effective syllabus design supporting student engagement and learning.
  • Selecting required texts and materials.
