Green Transformation: Empowering Communities Through Sustainable Waste Management Education<\/strong><\/p>

Biology Education Department Community Service Project<\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

In a proactive move towards promoting sustainable waste management practices, the biology department launched a comprehensive project to engage the community and raise awareness about the importance of proper waste disposal methods. A group of dedicated eco-warrior students lead by Ms. Sawsan Hamed<\/a> decided to shake things up and revolutionize waste management in our beloved community. November 1ts, 2023 marked the beginning of the tireless team, while May 30th, 2024 was the conclusion of the community, through a series of strategic steps, they aim to foster environmental consciousness and make tangible contributions towards a cleaner and greener future.<\/p>

Stage 1. Engagement Extravaganza& Funds Blitz<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

The initiative kicked off with a dynamic fundraising day organized inside the campus. Through vibrant poster displays detailing the project’s objectives and interactive activities such as food sales, students were actively involved in the community, garnering support, and enthusiasm for their project. During the fundraising day, a buzzing campus filled with excitement and the aroma of delicious treats wafted through the air. Armed with delicious local dishes and culinary delights, our students (Gashbeen Kadhim, Rabar Mohammad\u00a0 , Hogr Junaid, Soma Bahaddin, Shiwa Mariwan, Shan Muhsin, Sima Hawez and Zina Othman )led by Ms. Sawsan and Ms.Shnhyar Qadir rally the troops for a fundraising fiesta. With engaging activities and mouth-watering food, they didn’t just raise awareness; they practically turned the whole campus into a carnival of sustainability. Yet, all that fun and excitement weren’t just for show, those funds they raised from the lifeblood of this eco-revolution, such as posters printing, and buying materials for educational projects, every penny counts in their quest to make our world a greener and cleaner place.<\/p>

Stage 2. Poster Design Competition Palooza<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Who doesn’t love a good old poster design competition? A poster design competition was held, focusing on waste management principles using the 3R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Our fourth-grade creative genius students took the stage, armed with markers and imagination, to showcase their artistic chops. The winning poster was selected through a rigorous process under a jury member formed from the staff of the Biology department. The winning poster was not just a piece of paper, it was a lighthouse of hope, guiding our community towards a future where waste is a thing of the past! The poster was printed and prominently distributed to schools, nurseries, kindergartens, and supermarkets to serve as a visual reminder of the importance of responsible waste management practices.<\/p>

Stage 3. School visit & Trashy Theatre<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Recognizing the significance of educating the younger generation, a group of grade three students (Gashbeen Kadhim, Rabar Mohammad\u00a0 , Hogr Junaid, Soma Bahaddin, Shiwa Mariwan, Shan Muhsin, Sima Hawez and Zina Othman ) conducted several visits to primary and secondary schools in Erbil governorate. Our students took their show on the road! Armed with speeches and a knack for theatrics, they hit up schools all over the city to spread the word about proper waste disposal. Through engaging speeches, presentations, and let’s not forget the comic play to show how learning about waste management could be so entertaining. Speaking of entertainment, ever heard of a parody on waste management? Yep, you read that right! Our talented entertainers brought the house down with a hilarious take on the consequences of improper waste disposal. Who knew laughter could be such a powerful tool for change?<\/p>

Sage 4. Students’ Impactful Poster Campaign<\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Biology education students Gashbeen , Soma , Hoger, Rabar, and Mohammed\u00a0 Under the supervision of Ms. Sawsan Hamed embarked on an inspiring mission to spread awareness and knowledge through their winning competition posters. With enthusiasm and dedication, they adorned the walls of Gulan International School, Nilufer Ishik School, Teammart, and various local supermarkets with their creative work. This effort not only beautified these locations but also sparked curiosity and admiration among shop owners and community members. The overwhelmingly positive feedback they received reflects the power of education and the impact of their initiative, leaving a lasting impression and inspiring others to take part in similar activities.<\/p>
