On September 11th 2023, Ms. Zhikal O Khudhur<\/a>,\u00a0 Assistant Lecture in the Department of Biology Education<\/a>, Faculty of Education at Tishk International University<\/a> (TIU) presented a topic of great interest and importance \u2013 the possible association between the eNOS rs1800779 (A\/G) polymorphism and the incidence of myocardial infarction (MI) among the Iraqi Kurdish population. The implications of such research are substantial, as understanding genetic factors contributing to heart disease can help improve prevention and treatment strategies.<\/p>\n Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) continue to pose a significant global health challenge, with genetic factors playing a pivotal role in susceptibility. The endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene has been extensively studied in relation to CVDs across various populations. In this seminar, the presenter delved into the findings of an investigation that focused on the association between the eNOS rs1800779 (A\/G) polymorphism and the progression of myocardial infarction (MI) within the Kurdish population. 85 healthy and 80 MI patients from Kurdistan, Iraq, all of Kurdish ethnicity were analyzed. Using genetic testing (ARMS-PCR), no significant association between the gene variant and MI risk. Nitric oxide (NO) levels also showed no correlation with the gene variant.<\/p>\n The\u00a0 study suggests that the eNOS gene variant is not a major factor in MI risk among Kurds. These findings contribute to our understanding of genetic factors in heart health.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
